WOOD BROTHERS CONTINUE WINNING STREAK
By: Kari Shear-Carlson
(Monday, June 14, 2010) The ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour joined the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net for the third time this season. The Wood brothers have taken home the top-spot in all three events. Jerry Wood won the first two events at Madison International Speedway and Elko Speedway and younger brother, John Wood was able to come home victorious this past Friday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
The 2008 and 2009 USST Series Champion and all-time truck series feature winner, John Wood, qualified fastest out of the 13 truck field and started the main event in the 9th position. The #1 of Conrad Jorgenson took the early lead, but the battle was heating up for the top four spots. John Wood took over the second spot on lap 8 and was challenging Jorgenson for the lead on lap 10.
A spin on lap 12 put John Wood on the inside of Tom McClintock at the restart. The two raced side-by-side for two laps and Wood took over the top spot. The third caution waved for a spin on the backstretch on lap 15 once again tightening up the field.
Last week’s winner, Jerry Wood was quietly moving up and was pressuring the #74L of Todd Lockington for the fourth position by lap 26. Five laps later, the driver of the #73W made the pass on the outside and continued his mission to the front taking over third by lap 34.
The #40 of Tom McClintock never gave up and made John Wood work for his first victory of the year. He was also able to hold off Jerry Wood for the second spot. McClintock was satisfied with his run but did not take it without expressing his thoughts. “I felt that John was blocking me quite a bit and that’s something we will discuss, but overall we had a really good run tonight.“
Last week after finishing third behind Conrad Jorgenson and his older brother Jerry, John Wood said he hoped that he and his brother would find themselves in victory lane again, but that he would be the one finishing first. His prediction came true. He did take home his first win, and brother Jerry came home in third. “I was really hoping my brother Jerry would have gotten up to second, so that we could finish one and two, but a win and third is great,” said a somewhat emotional Wood.
The next event for the ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour is on Friday, July 2nd at Madison International Speedway.
